UNNOVATIONS

(& HAWKIN)

TVGoHome, the website (TV show / book) which brought you the fantabulous Radio Times dream-listings (‘Daily Mail Island’! ‘Newstrodamus’! ‘Cunt’!), has a satirical side-arm: Unnovations.

Catalogue tat, brought to you at exorbitant prices by a dedicated perma-tanned team at their shopping channel. As seen on UKPlay, where the QVC-style Unnovations staff grinned their rictus way through product demonstrations and caller phone-ins, urging us to gullibly part cash for items such as the U B Lighthouse (generates a sense of purpose in your life, by giving you a head torch, four miniature rocks and a boat).

More recently, some of the choice products have been gathered together in a book. Hence the illustrations.

All of the offshoots in the TVGoHome family have the glorious power to make you laugh, think, and turn away flinching. Like ‘Brass Eye’ or ‘The Day Today’, they also warp your ability to take other ventures in the same medium seriously.

To prove this, I shall now entice you to scroll further down the page, and peruse some of the products available from the (tat-hawking) catalogue company Hawkin. All of which are real. Though now your brain is attuned to an Unnovations post-modern mockery setting, you’ll find it quite hard to assimilate this new information as anything but ironic…

HAWKIN

Witness the fake quotes! The vague attempt at humour! The utter incongruity of the items on sale!

…It’s all too much, isn’t it…?
